NBSN is a collaborative effort of Puget Sound businesses and organizations committed to promoting the salvage and reuse of building materials. Our mission is to encourage and enable contractors, homeowners, artists, designers, and local government to save and reuse building materials in their projects.

Several local jurisdictions require a Salvage Assessment as part of the permitting process under certain conditions. Jurisdictions include the City of Seattle, the City of Tacoma, the City of Shoreline, the City of Redmond, and the City of Kenmore. If you’ve arrived here looking for someone to perform a Salvage Assessment to meet permit requirements, please contact one of these salvage stores that are Verifying Agents:

A Salvage Assessment does not require that construction and demolition materials be salvaged, but does encourage material reuse. A Salvage Assessment, paired with the help of a Verifying Agent specializing in material reuse markets, will help identify which materials from a project site are likely able to be salvaged for reuse at little or no cost. The Verifying Agent makes this assessment based on current market demand, but it is not a guarantee. Fluctuating markets and consumer needs based on location may impact the retail for some materials identified as “salvageable.”

Committed to saving or safely disposing of the maximum amount of building materials? Consider deconstruction. Deconstruction is a form of building demolition that utilizes a combination of machine and hand-dismantling to recover more materials for reuse. This can include everything from structural framing beams to flooring and fixtures. For a Deconstruction Assessment, please contact one of these Verifying Agents below:
